Welcome to Transitions Birth Connection!

I'm Ronica, the owner and operator of Transitions. My goal is to create a community of education and support among peers in and around the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum stages of life.

When I had my children I was working in the Early Childhood world. When my kids were 5 and 7 I went back to college. Now I'm an RN in the maternity unit at a local hospital. I'm a wife, and mother of two teenage daughters. But once I was just like you. Pregnant with my first child, experiencing everything for the first time. Pregnant with my second child and nervous about having two small humans to care for. Nervous about the birth process. Asking "is this normal?" about so many things.

Thankfully I had a great support system, and at the time a job that required me to learn all about pregnancy, infancy, and toddlerhood. I had friends and coworkers who were having children around the same time. I could watch and learn the beauty (and struggles) of breastfeeding, juggling parenting and work, and more.

In the end, I was so glad I had the support and knowledge ahead of time, because I was somewhat astonished at all the things they don't tell you at the doctor's office. I'm not sure exactly what I expected, but it was certainly more than a stack of photocopied handouts and a list of foods I couldn't eat anymore. It was probably a little more in-depth than that, but that's how I remember it.

Now that I've worked in the healthcare system I understand more. There was certainly a disconnect between my expectations and the reality of what the Women's Care office provides.

The Women's Care offices, and Labor & Delivery units have their jobs to do, and they do them well. Their number one goal is to make sure you and your infant are as safe and healthy as can be. Unfortunately, with limited staff and a world run by insurance companies, the prenatal offices have very little time and resources to step very far beyond their main purpose.

This is where I come in! My goal is to fill the gap between what the offices can provide, and what you need as a new or seasoned parent throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. Please let me know how I can help you!
